Robbie's Widetrack blob build..... Empty
PostSubject: Robbie's Widetrack blob build.....   Robbie's Widetrack blob build..... EmptyWed 11 Feb - 18:58

Thought it would be good to get a build thread on the go, this is from when the car was bought till a few weeks ago:

Its a 2005 Impreza WRX STi Type UK Widetrack which came with the PPP pack.

Once I got the car home I checked underneath and found it had a lovely 3" turbo back Mongoose exhaust rather than the PPP system. Also had a crap Bailey DV which was ruining the car.

After a few days I found when left out overnight it was taking a while to start - starter running but not engaging correctly. Big thanks to Mattybr5@MB Developments on here for sorting a replacement as well as various other pieces over the last 6 weeks.

I quickly fitted the starter motor but now car wouldn't start at all?! Checked replacement starter and was perfect. Time to strip down the car....

I am good friends with Mick at MB Motorsport so he got the lovely job of stripping everything down and a quick phone call to Scoobyclinic had an Exedy Pink box clutch kit & 6.7kg flywheel. The replacement starter also went on. Didnt expect to find the outer ring gear on the flywheel to have come off though - first for me and Mick:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

After it was all put back together and clutch bedded in I was quite enjoying using it but still ordering parts haha.

Since the clutch was bedded in the following were added:

- STi JDM front strut brace
- Perrin short ram intake
- Perrin boost solenoid
- GFB 50/50 DV
- Custom mapping session from Scoobyclinic

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

This saw 333bhp & 345Ib/ft - car drives so much better now and so smooth.

Started tweaking a few exterior bits:

- Private plate transferred on
- Headlights detangoed & smoked
- Carbon exhaust trim
- Boot debadged
- Hella Supertone horns
- Replaced crap front mudflaps to replacements same as rear
- Pink front grill badge

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Just had my shiney new BC racing coilovers delivered ready to go on as well as a spare set of wheels which are going off for a repaint in anthracite.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Some of the pics from along the way upto now:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I come from a car mad family so we go out on some good runs out, my parents have a blobeye WRX with a few goodies fitted and my brother has a Clio 182.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Car will hopefully be sitting like this soon:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Loving it upto now!

Well spent some time on the Impreza over the last few weeks.

Got a Cusco rear chassis brace and brackets to fit my RB320 diffuser:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Also got the rear arches cleaned out and painted up for some extra protection:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The coilovers went on at MB Motorsport and am playing around with the settings before it goes into Revolution for its alignment:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Also been trying out my GoPro on the Impreza and my brothers Clio 182 but haven't uploaded them yet, got some pics in though:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Will chuck some vids out when they are on youtube.

Well I ended up with another set of wheels - I wasn't happy with the 17" standard wheels in any colour so managed to sourced some of my favourite wheels:

18x8" ET45 Oz Superleggera's - they came with 245/40/18 Pirelli's but these are to tight to use so have ordered 235/40/18 Yokohama AD08R tyres and new carbon OZ centre caps so once they are repainted in anthracite they will look superb.

Some snaps of how it sat on the 245 tyres:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I also played on photoshop before deciding on the colour.....

Standard silver:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Gold with carbon centre caps & black wheels nuts:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Anthracite with carbon centre caps & black wheel nuts:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Will lift the suspension very slightly then get the cars alignment setup.

Also waiting for new brakes to arrive, got the following on order:

- Performance Friction front discs
- DS2500 front pads
- Godspeed rear discs
- DS2500 rear pads
- Goodridge stainless brakelines
- Uprated brake fluid

Then its back to looking at increasing the power!

Cheers - I love progressing a car - this is getting done alot quicker than I thought I could have.

Round bends the Clio holds up reasonably well as my brothers isn't a standard 182 haha, it has quite a few bits me and him have done to it, Motorsport top mounts and strut braces, coilovers, 4 pot front brakes. Goes bloody well haha

On writing next part of thread as missed the last few weeks off.

Why am I having deja vu with this? Have you posted this build on Facebook or somewhere else? Sure I have seen this before including all the pics & build bits?

Great transformation so far!  Lucky! Northern Ireland reg on there originally - did it come from NI?

Well between then and now the following has happened:

Got the tyres for the 18" alloys - 235/40/18 AD08r's:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Plus topped up the spare room with parts:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

M3 lip spoiler fitted:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Wheels refurbed by SEM in Sunderland, new tyres & centre caps fitted:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Enjoyed the snow!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Then started freshening the engine bay up:

- Carbonmods belt cover
- Rallytech bolt kit
- STi accessory oil cap
- FAKE, USELESS CRAP accessory header tank cap
- Perrin battery strap
- Mishimoto radiator brackets
- SCR branded slam panel

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

That crappy header tank cap turned out to be a fake and resulted in this:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Resulted in over pressure in the coolant system and popped top radiator hose somehow.

Picked car backup yesterday from MB Motorsport after having following work done:

- CDF Racing anti lift kit
- CDF Racing drop links front and rear
- Ultra Racing 23mm front ARB
- Ultra Racing 22mm rear ARB
- Performance Friction 2 piece front discs
- Godspeed grooved rear discs
- DS2500 pads front and rear
- Goodridge phantom stainless brake lines
- Motul RBF brake fluid
- HKS oil filter
- Mobil 10w60 motorsport oil
- Subaru fuel filter
- Wrinkle finish header tank
- Samco radiator hose kit
- New coolant

As always MB Motorsport did the business and car is back to full awesomeness!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Today I fitted the new wheels, lifted the suspension another 10mm and fitted a Spec C centre visor:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Apologies for crap last few pics but these were off my phone.

Monday sees the car go into AK Automotive (Sideways Dan off here) for full alignment then its getting mileage on brakes ready for some abuse.

These also arrived today ready for when I go for more power, RCM unequal stainless headers and venturi up pipe, welds are beautiful on them as well!

Cheers, car isn't getting much bodywork love as paint is quite rough so no point wasting time on it when I am getting it resprayed haha. Mechanically though this year it will get everything done all being well.

Cheers for the comments on the car - its definitely getting better

The AD08's are great tyres - haven't used car much on them but had them on my old Focus and that was a beast haha. 360bhp & 435Ib/ft through front wheels and handled it perfectly even in wet with the AD08's on. That said these are the AD08R version which are meant to be even better.

Will let you know after Monday as not using it till then as its going to Sideways Dan for alignment

Presents arrived from Roger Clark Motorsport, love the presentation of the parts when they come. No tatty cardboard boxes here:

Injectors should be here next week and also waiting for a new window switch as the switch has failed on the rear drivers side door.

Well car is back from alignment at Sideways Dan at AK Automotive - he did a superb job and car is now even better. I wanted a setup mainly for fast road as not planning loads of trackdays just a few each year.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Turn in is superb and even with the AD08r tyres on it doesnt want to kick the arse out as much in the wet as before. Is very predictable as well so gives more confidence.

Also got my 850cc injectors through as well as all new boot trims and an STi embroided boot mat from Matty at MB Developments.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Quick clean out and interior is back to looking decent again:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Back into MB Motorsport tomorrow for an hour on the ramps getting the handbrake adjusted and to check the ABS rings as get an ABS light quickly blip on over 50mph.

Put a few hundred miles on in the last few days bedding brakes in and seeing how car performs after service - seems much smoother than before. Brakes are amazing even with just a few hundred miles bedding in.

Waiting on new jerry cans for trackday and it needs a bath haha

Well car had its trackday in March and performed excellent.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

It did through up a few things I wanted to change and had to change:

- got black flagged for noise twice - ordered a 4" decibel slayer to lower the noise

- DS2500 seemed great but after 120 miles on track they have lost there bite so want some Pagid yellows ready for the next trackday

Also had the following sorted at MB Motorsport:

- Gearbox oil
- Diff oil
- AS Performance gear selector bush kit
- Perrin dogbone mount

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Then popped around to Kev's to pick up the new ducts he had made up for me and painted:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Got them fitted on and look superb

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Also got the damper socks on to protect them from the shitty roads:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

It also sounds like a front CV is on the way out so ordered a pair of front driveshafts to chuck on ready for the track session

Fingers crossed it all goes to plan and is ready

Well the DS2500 front pads were destroyed in 500 miles. It appears the trackday I did was where the pads overheated and they are just going downhill very quickly.

Called round to see Alyn at ASP and got a set of new front pads - Pagid RS29 Yellows. Need to get these fitted and bedded in ready for next trackday.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Also got a pair of front driveshafts to go on as noticed the CV joints are on the way out, shame as only done around 100 miles since getting the gearbox oil done so looks like that may have been a waste Sad

Was sick of seeing the chrome boot lock when nothing else is chrome on the outside so got the plastidip out and sorted that:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Also managed to get the Volvo's new private plate fitted to see what it looks like - just waiting for the V5 to come back:
